From the end of November, the Marble Palace plays host to a new exhibition examining the lives and work of two well known Russian artists from the 1960’s. The palace, which is a branch of the Russian museum, is showing a retrospective focusing on Nicholai Andronov and Natalya Egorshina.
The professional work of Andronov and Egorshina is one side of their life on show; another is their personal relationship. More than 170 exhibits from the family archives of the artists, the Russian Museum and the Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow) will show both of these sides.
The sixties art movement in Russia was noted for its interesting aesthetics, an intention to tell the truth about the creative process, and a struggle to overhaul the language of art. As in much of the world in this era, there were also frequent political overtones in their work.
